Crypto Prop Trading Glossary

A complete reference of trading terms, challenge rules, and platform concepts used at FundingAlphaX. Whether you are new to prop trading or a seasoned trader, this glossary covers every term you need to know.

A

Account Size
The total amount of demo capital allocated to a trader's challenge or funded account. FundingAlphaX offers account sizes ranging from $10,000 to $200,000. The account size determines the notional value of positions a trader can open and directly affects the dollar value of drawdown limits and profit targets.
Altcoin
Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin. FundingAlphaX supports trading of 50+ altcoins including Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and other major tokens. Altcoin pairs are quoted against USDT on the platform and use real-time Binance price feeds for execution.

B

Binance
The world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume. FundingAlphaX sources all cryptocurrency prices in real-time from Binance via WebSocket feeds, ensuring traders execute on the same prices as the live spot and perpetual futures markets.
Bitcoin (BTC)
The first and largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. Bitcoin is the most actively traded pair on FundingAlphaX, available as BTC/USDT. It serves as a benchmark asset for crypto prop trading and is commonly used for both scalping and swing trading strategies.

C

Challenge Fee
The one-time entry fee paid to participate in a FundingAlphaX evaluation challenge. Challenge fees vary by account size and are payable in cryptocurrency (BTC, ETH, USDT, and 300+ other tokens). The challenge fee is fully refunded with the trader's first payout after passing both phases and becoming funded.
Commodities
Physical goods traded on financial markets, including precious metals and energy products. FundingAlphaX supports commodity trading on gold (XAU/USD), silver (XAG/USD), and crude oil within the same challenge account alongside crypto and forex pairs.
Consistency Rule
A risk management requirement at FundingAlphaX stipulating that no single trading day can account for more than 30% of total profits. The consistency rule ensures traders demonstrate repeatable, disciplined performance rather than relying on one outsized winning day to pass the challenge.

D

Day Rollover
The daily reset point at which a new trading day begins and the daily drawdown limit recalculates. At rollover, the trader's daily starting balance is updated to their current equity, and the daily loss limit is recalculated from that new baseline. The rollover time is based on the trader's configured timezone.
Day Trading
A trading style where all positions are opened and closed within the same trading day, avoiding overnight exposure. Day traders on FundingAlphaX typically focus on intraday price movements in high-liquidity pairs like BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT, using technical analysis and short time-frame charts.
Demo Capital
Simulated funds provided by a prop firm for evaluation and funded trading purposes. Traders at FundingAlphaX trade with demo capital rather than real deposited funds. Profits generated on demo capital are paid out as real money according to the profit split agreement.
Drawdown
The decline in account equity from a peak balance, expressed as a percentage. FundingAlphaX enforces two drawdown limits: a 5% maximum daily drawdown (calculated from the day's starting balance) and a 10% maximum overall drawdown (calculated from the account's highest recorded equity). Breaching either limit results in immediate account termination.

E

Entry Price
The price at which a trader opens a position. The entry price is recorded when a buy or sell order is filled and serves as the reference point for calculating unrealized and realized profit or loss. On FundingAlphaX, entry prices reflect real-time Binance market data.
Ethereum (ETH)
The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and the native token of the Ethereum blockchain. ETH/USDT is one of the most popular trading pairs on FundingAlphaX, offering high liquidity and volatility suitable for all trading styles from scalping to swing trading.
Evaluation Challenge
The two-phase assessment process traders must complete to qualify for a funded account at FundingAlphaX. Phase 1 requires reaching a 10% profit target, and Phase 2 requires a 5% profit target. Both phases enforce a 5% daily drawdown limit, 10% maximum drawdown, and the 30% consistency rule. There is no time limit on either phase.
Exit Price
The price at which a trader closes a position. The difference between the exit price and the entry price, multiplied by position size, determines the realized profit or loss on the trade. Exit prices on FundingAlphaX are executed against real-time Binance price feeds.
Expert Advisor (EA)
An automated trading program that executes trades based on pre-programmed rules and algorithms. FundingAlphaX permits all legitimate EAs and trading bots. Traders may use automated strategies for scalping, grid trading, trend following, or any other approach that complies with the platform's trading rules.

F

Forex
The foreign exchange market where currencies are traded in pairs. FundingAlphaX offers 50+ forex pairs including majors (EUR/USD, GBP/USD), minors, and exotics. Forex pairs can be traded alongside crypto and commodities within the same challenge account and follow standard market hours.
Funded Account
A trading account provided by FundingAlphaX after a trader successfully passes both phases of the evaluation challenge. Funded accounts use demo capital but generate real payouts. Funded traders receive an 80% profit split with no cap on earnings and can request payouts on a bi-weekly cycle.

G

Gold (XAU/USD)
A commodity trading pair representing the price of one troy ounce of gold quoted in US dollars. Gold is available on FundingAlphaX as part of the commodities offering, allowing traders to diversify their challenge or funded account strategy beyond crypto and forex.

L

Leverage
A mechanism that allows traders to control a larger position with a smaller amount of capital. FundingAlphaX supports up to 1:100 leverage depending on the asset class and trading pair. Higher leverage amplifies both potential profits and potential losses, making risk management essential.
Liquidation
The forced closure of a position when the trader's margin is insufficient to maintain it. In perpetual futures trading, liquidation occurs when unrealized losses approach the margin deposited for the position. On FundingAlphaX, drawdown limits are designed to prevent liquidation scenarios by terminating the account before margin is fully depleted.
Long Position
A trade that profits when the price of an asset increases. Opening a long position means buying an asset with the expectation of selling it later at a higher price. On FundingAlphaX, traders can go long on any supported crypto, forex, or commodity pair.

M

Margin
The amount of capital required to open and maintain a leveraged position. Margin acts as collateral for the trade. On FundingAlphaX, margin requirements vary by instrument and leverage setting. Proper margin management is critical to avoiding liquidation and staying within drawdown limits.
Mark Price
A fair price calculation used to determine unrealized profit and loss and trigger liquidations in perpetual futures markets. The mark price is derived from the spot index price plus a decaying funding basis, reducing the impact of short-term price manipulation on trader positions.
Maximum Daily Loss
The maximum amount a trader's equity can decline in a single trading day before the account is terminated. At FundingAlphaX, the maximum daily loss is set at 5% of the day's starting balance. This limit resets at the configured day rollover time and is independent of the overall maximum drawdown.

N

Notional Value
The total market value of a leveraged position. Notional value equals the position size multiplied by the current market price. For example, holding 1 BTC at $60,000 represents a $60,000 notional value regardless of the margin used to open the position.

P

Payout
The withdrawal of earned profits from a funded account. FundingAlphaX processes payout requests within 24 to 48 hours on a bi-weekly cycle. Traders can receive payouts via USDT (TRC-20 or ERC-20), USDC, or bank transfer. There is no minimum payout amount, and the first payout includes a refund of the original challenge fee.
Peak Balance
The highest equity level ever reached in a trading account. The maximum overall drawdown at FundingAlphaX is calculated as a 10% decline from the peak balance. As a trader's account grows, the peak balance rises, and the absolute drawdown floor adjusts upward accordingly (trailing drawdown behavior).
Perpetual Futures
A type of derivative contract that allows traders to speculate on the price of an asset without an expiration date. Unlike traditional futures, perpetual futures use a funding rate mechanism to keep the contract price aligned with the spot price. FundingAlphaX crypto prices are sourced from Binance perpetual futures markets.
Phase 1
The first stage of the FundingAlphaX evaluation challenge. In Phase 1, traders must achieve a 10% profit target while maintaining a maximum 5% daily drawdown and 10% overall drawdown. There is no time limit. A minimum number of trading days is required before advancing to Phase 2.
Phase 2
The second and final stage of the FundingAlphaX evaluation challenge. Phase 2 requires a 5% profit target with the same 5% daily and 10% overall drawdown limits as Phase 1. Upon successfully completing Phase 2, the trader receives a funded account with an 80% profit split.
Position Sizing
The process of determining how large a trade to open relative to account equity. Proper position sizing is a core risk management technique that ensures no single trade can cause excessive drawdown. On FundingAlphaX, position sizing should account for the 5% daily drawdown and 10% maximum drawdown limits.
Pro Max Account
A premium funded account tier at FundingAlphaX offering the largest account sizes and enhanced features. Pro Max accounts are available to traders who have demonstrated consistent profitability and can handle larger capital allocations with disciplined risk management.
Profit Split
The percentage of trading profits retained by the funded trader versus the prop firm. FundingAlphaX offers a fixed 80/20 profit split — traders keep 80% of all profits generated on their funded account, while FundingAlphaX retains 20%. This split applies from the first payout with no tiers or scaling requirements.
Profit Target
The percentage gain a trader must achieve to pass a challenge phase. At FundingAlphaX, the profit target is 10% for Phase 1 and 5% for Phase 2. The target is calculated as a percentage of the initial account balance and must be reached without breaching any drawdown or consistency rules.
Prop Firm
Short for proprietary trading firm. A prop firm provides traders with capital (demo or live) to trade financial markets and shares a portion of the profits. FundingAlphaX is a crypto-first prop firm that also supports forex and commodities, offering funded accounts from $10,000 to $200,000.

R

Realized PnL
Profit and loss that has been locked in by closing a trade. Realized PnL is calculated as the difference between the exit price and entry price, multiplied by position size, minus any fees. On FundingAlphaX, realized PnL directly affects account equity, drawdown calculations, and progress toward profit targets.
Risk Management
The practice of identifying, assessing, and controlling financial risks in trading. At FundingAlphaX, risk management includes respecting the 5% daily drawdown limit, 10% maximum drawdown, 30% consistency rule, and using appropriate position sizing, stop losses, and leverage settings to protect account equity.

S

Scalping
A high-frequency trading style that aims to profit from small price movements over very short time frames, often seconds to minutes. Scalping is fully permitted on FundingAlphaX. Scalpers typically trade high-liquidity pairs like BTC/USDT and rely on tight spreads and fast execution.
Scaling Plan
A program that increases a funded trader's account size based on consistent profitability over time. FundingAlphaX's scaling plan rewards disciplined traders with larger capital allocations, allowing them to grow their funded account beyond the initial size earned through the evaluation challenge.
Short Position
A trade that profits when the price of an asset decreases. Opening a short position means selling an asset with the expectation of buying it back later at a lower price. On FundingAlphaX, traders can short any supported crypto, forex, or commodity pair using perpetual futures or CFD instruments.
Simulated Trading
Trading executed on demo capital that mirrors live market conditions without risking real funds. All FundingAlphaX challenge and funded accounts use simulated trading with real-time Binance price feeds. Profits from simulated trading are paid out as real money according to the 80/20 profit split.
Solana (SOL)
A high-performance blockchain and its native cryptocurrency. SOL/USDT is a popular trading pair on FundingAlphaX, known for its volatility and liquidity. Solana is frequently traded by scalpers and day traders seeking large intraday price movements.
Stop Loss
A conditional order that automatically closes a position at a predetermined price to limit losses. Using stop losses is a critical risk management practice on FundingAlphaX, helping traders stay within the 5% daily drawdown and 10% maximum drawdown limits by capping potential loss on any single trade.
Swing Trading
A trading style that holds positions for multiple days to weeks, aiming to capture medium-term price trends. Swing trading is fully supported on FundingAlphaX with no restrictions on holding positions overnight or over weekends for crypto pairs. Swing traders often combine technical and fundamental analysis.

T

Take Profit
A conditional order that automatically closes a position at a predetermined price to lock in gains. Take profit orders help traders capture profits systematically and are often used in combination with stop losses to define a trade's risk-reward ratio before entry.
Trading Bot
Software that automates the execution of trading strategies based on predefined algorithms, technical indicators, or signals. FundingAlphaX allows all legitimate trading bots and automated strategies. Bots must still comply with the platform's drawdown limits, consistency rules, and trading policies.
Trading Day
A calendar day during which at least one trade is opened or closed on the account. FundingAlphaX requires a minimum number of trading days per challenge phase to ensure traders demonstrate consistent activity. A day counts as a trading day only if at least one position is opened or closed.
Trailing Drawdown
A drawdown limit that adjusts upward as the account equity reaches new highs but never moves downward. At FundingAlphaX, the 10% maximum drawdown is tracked from peak balance, meaning as profits grow, the drawdown floor rises. This protects the firm while allowing traders to compound gains.

U

Unrealized PnL
Profit or loss on open positions that has not yet been locked in by closing the trade. Unrealized PnL fluctuates with market price movements and is included in equity calculations for drawdown monitoring on FundingAlphaX. A position's unrealized PnL becomes realized PnL only when the trade is closed.
USDC
USD Coin, a fully-backed stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, issued by Circle. USDC is accepted as a payout method on FundingAlphaX and is commonly used as a base currency for crypto trading pairs. It provides a stable store of value for traders between positions.
USDT
Tether, the most widely used stablecoin in cryptocurrency markets, pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. USDT is the primary quote currency for crypto pairs on FundingAlphaX (e.g., BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT). It is also available as a payout method via TRC-20 or ERC-20 networks.

W

WebSocket Price Feed
A persistent, real-time data connection that streams live market prices to the trading platform without requiring repeated requests. FundingAlphaX uses WebSocket connections to Binance to deliver instant cryptocurrency price updates, ensuring traders see and execute on the same prices as the live market.
Win Rate
The percentage of trades that result in a profit, calculated as winning trades divided by total trades. While a high win rate is desirable, it must be considered alongside risk-reward ratio. A trader with a 40% win rate can still be profitable if their average winning trade is significantly larger than their average losing trade.
